The biggest in Lithuania Labanoras regional park was established in 1992. Total area of the park-50 000 ha. This park is situated in the eastern part of Lithuania- in Svencioniai, Moletai and Utena regions, in the watershed of the rivers Zeimena ir Sventoji, 80 km from Vilniaus.

Taking into account the natural and cultural heritage, protection forms and usage possibilities the territory of the park is divided into conservation, protection, recreational, commercial and common water usage zones.

In Labanoras regional park there are 2 reserves-1600 ha (3%), 6 landscape-10 600 ha (21%), 7 telmological-2000 ha (4%), 7 hydrographical -5700 ha (11%), 1 botanical-130 ha, 2 botanical-zoological-2800 ha (6%) reserves. Orther part of the park belongs to recreational, commercial and common usage zones. Forests comprise 40 000 ha (80%) of total area. Tree species composition of the forests are almost continuous. Mostly pine stands prevail (81%). The biggest part of the park is occupied by Labanoras forest massive.

The relief of Labanoras regional park is unique-a little sunken, almost plane surface and in the north-west-very wavy. It the cause of glacial period. In the deeper layers it is possible to find moraine loam, which is covered by sand. Because of that in the small hollows there are 260 lakes. The total area of the lakes-7000 ha (41%). The lakes of Labanoras regional park-clean and clear water of Aukstaitija lakes. It is interesting that lakes are located by couples: Baltieji and Juodieji Lakajai, Krakinis and Krakinukas, Zelva and Zelvykstis, Zioteliai, Mazasis and Didysis Siaurys. In the wet areas the swamps are laying: Berzalotas-Aitsputiskis, Kanys, Snieginis and other.

The surplus water of Labanoras forest is flowed to the basin of the rivers Zeimena and Sventoji by 2 big rivers and 17 small rivers. In the park's territory 54 mammal, 172 bird, 5 reptilian, 11 amphibian species can be found. In the Labanoras regional park there are 5 mounds, 19 burial mounds, 4 old settlements, 5 cult objects and architectural monuments.

LABANORAS VILLAGE
Labanoras village is known from old documents since 1373. This village since old times was surrounded by deep forests and separated from other villages, causes of that the way of living and unique traditions have survived here so far. First habitants earned their living by hunting, fishing and bee-keeping.

The church of Labanoras is mentioned in documents in 1522. The buildings of cult ensemble of XVIII-XIX centuries are under State protection. The oldest building-belfry, the paintings of baroque epoch are recognized as art monuments. At the end of XIX century the compositor M.Petrauskas and the singer K.Petrauskas have been living here. At that time the surroundings of Labanoras were famous of old Lithuanian music instruments.

Hidden in the deep forests Labanoras village lived through many historical events: the battle of rebels and Cossack in 1863; the period of Polonise in XIX century; Lithuanian press prohibition period. This village was the hiding place for refuges during I World War and witnesses the time of II World War and post war period as well. Today Labanoras village-comfortable village with old traditional Lithuanian settlements. It is pity but this village is becoming alive only in summer time. There is the song "Days of mushrooms, air of mushrooms the whole Labanoras is in full swing". Now there are 100 habitants in this village.
